The initial concept of The Oriental Tea House is a reinterpretation of the Chinese tea ceremony and to ensure the design reflects the restaurant's history. Typically, the atmosphere of a Chinese tea ceremony is calm, muted and moody. This has been translated it into the design which enhances the authenticity of the Tea Ceremony.
Hecker Guthrie have worked towards an understated and honest approach to materiality and ambience, creating a space that reflects the calmness of the traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Creating a simple architectural design was the key point in this project to enhance the openness of the space without compromising in detail of joinery.
