Joe Black I

Melbourne

Drawing on four generations of family-owned business, Joe Black the Tailor was born. The name dates to 1867, with the new established in the 1880s, but the revised brand needed smartening up. Situated in Little Collins Street Melbourne, the intent was to create a space that had hints of gentry, sport and brought back the experience, to the retail environment.

Purposefully custom, utilising materiality used in men’s suiting and tailoring, the space is warm and inviting. With rich warm timbers and a sense of the 60s and 70s, hints of leather enrich the space and heighten the experience. The space references the process of tailoring, and celebrates the beauty of it, bringing the customer back to a time of customisation and individualisation.
