Waffee

Melbourne

Conceived as a sensory immersion, Waffee is affectionately named after its two key offerings – waffles and coffee. In order to not hinder the engagement with said offerings, the space was designed as a display (of the products and the process), in both a visual and all-encompassing sensory way.

Engaged in the concept design and direction, this young Korean client wanted the space to be divided in terms of ‘stations’, as a process within a process. The palette is one that imbues a sense of warmth, of warm grey timber, painted timber glazed panels and directional lighting. Oversized timber members were stacked, to create the counter and window display. Stone was also used, and pinned off of the rear display, as a feature. There are familiar moments, and also a play on the traditional bake house that is intentional.
